The Covid-19 pandemic has really brought the chefs out of each one of us. Since the option of eating at restaurants is no longer available, even the ones who rarely picked a ladle in their hand, are now showing off some kickass cooking moves in the kitchens. Lock Down! No Problem.
Here’s the flip side. Most of us would agree that our kitchens are one of the most visited places in our homes post lockdown. The pantry is stacked more than ever before, with the must haves and not-so-must-have food items. We tend to stock up things that we “might” (read “never”) need at a random given point in time. Ha ha! You know what we are talking about!
All of it has made our kitchens packed with stuff. Finding the most suitable utensil for cooking pasta, the mess after a meal is cooked or the pile of grocery that you bought from the supermarket which has been lying on your coffee station for 2 days because of lack of storage space, are all connected with one root cause- piling up of junk in the kitchen.
Result, a disheveled kitchen with no space for any new addition to it. Ladies and gentlemen, it’s time to get rid of that junk from your kitchen and get organized.
Thinking where to start from? Fret not. We’ve got you covered with some hacks to get rid of unwanted junk from your kitchen.
- Categorize
Start with collecting all the stuff at one place. Get the electrical appliances that do not have a fixed place in your kitchen (like blender, toaster, coffee maker, etc) , dishes, baking gear, mugs, spoons, cereals, washing and cleaning materials, and the list is endless.
Gather everything at one place and categorize them.Generally, the categories may include pantry items, cleaning materials, electrical appliances, cooking vessels-small , medium and large, baking gears, glassware and serveware. Make more categories if needed.
Remove all the junk from your collection. Mainly those plastic spoons, paper cups, same sized utensils that you really do not need more than one or two. Consider donating them or if required disposing of them. Just make a call to Junk Junkies and we’ll clear any amount of junk that you may have at your disposal.
2. Decide a place for each category
Have a closer look at every nook and corner of your kitchen. Look at them as the most accessed area and the least. Store the stuff where it is most easily accessible. Like keep the cooking ladles, spoons etc near the cooking station. Similarly, store the cleaning materials near the sink. See what works best for you.
3. Organize
Organize everything at the allocated place in a fashion that it’s easy for you to remember and spot. For example, keep all the baking dishes and moulds on one shelf. Arrange them according to their sizes and shapes. If you have multiple dishes with the same shape but different sizes, stack them one in the other. You’ll save a lot of space.
4. Use transparent storage options
This is a bonus tip. Use transparent storage options like bins or jars to store your pantry items and stack them on the shelf according to the category. You can store the packet directly and spot them easily the next time you need it.Additionally, they look super clean and organized. Finally, you can also color coordinate the sections. It makes the shelf look super cool plus after a while you can spot your desired item in just one look.
